OK before you jump down my throat. I think BET is a hot mess. Apparently they knew they were a Hot Ghetto Mess, but then they realized to acknowledge this was wrong. I see the prevalent buffoonery, and yes I hang my head in shame, as white people actually watch this channel and think this is what most black people like to watch. 106 and Park, BET Uncut, Keyshia Cole's reality show, and Frankie & Neffe. All types of negro shame abounds on BET now, but let's go back in time.
Back to a time when the stupidity was always present, but less minstrel like than what we have now. BET was where I saw "black" music videos; videos MTV refused to play. Teen Summit, which I actually watched. I felt it addressed important topics, and was actually enjoyable to watch. BET Tonight with Tavis Smiley was a great news show. It kept me abreast of the current issues of the day. Did they keep these shows, no, it would have been too much like right, and it would have fell out of line with the stupidity that is BET. Even though these shows are gone, we still have them in our memories and they helped keep BET on the air. What keeps BET on the air now, I don't know. Maybe the reruns of Martin? Oh no, that's TV One. I don't know what the hell keeps BET on the air, but let's give thanks to the few positive aspects of BET of yesteryear, and mourn for what BET could have been; if not for all the shucking and jiving.

I remember the glory days of BET when it was actually about Black Entertainment. This of course was before Bob Johnson sold the network to Viacom and it became Black Niggertainment Television. To be fair though, Mtv and VH1 started cooning up their programming as well, not long after BET went over to the dark side.
"Niggertainment" that shit is funny and sad at the same time.
SIMONE
Oh Teen Summit, those were the days. I loved that show so much.
I think we need Chuck D's(from Public Enemy) quote about BET on here.
Reason # 4,000 I had BET cut out of my cable box along with Fox News. I couldn't watch that nonsense anymore. It's been, oh, five, six years now. Good riddance.
All these tv producers care about are effin ratings. Class, talking about what negative effects we have in our community no longer fits in the picture. All I'm waiting for now are reality tv executions. Who's with me?
I loved Teen Summit. That's the type of shows BET should have! Not the Tiny & Toya or continue to be Black Embarrassment Television!
Like TWiB said, call it, something other than Black Entertainment, because we all don't find this entertaining.
While my wife lived in Utah, BET was her only connection to the black world. We almost had to move just to ensure the local cable package included it. Of course that was back in the day.
In BET's defense, most ALL tv these days is trash, BET is just one flavor of trash.
O.K. that isn't really a defense, and what do I know, I turn off cable at the end of every football season.
Yeah man, Teen Summit was my show! I stoppd being a teen back in 1990, but I still watched it.
If you wanna know what happened to BET, then be sure to check this out.

Ive always had a problem with anything that didnt encourage diversity: BET,MTV,VH1,Fuse, america needs to start encouraging and celebrating all types of people and not just one group we need to start comming together.
LOL! Niggertainment?! I must have laughed for at least five minutes after reading that!
BET was supposedly a response to the lack of diversity on TV. CBS, NBC, ABC, were essentially white entertainment television, the Jeffersons and Diff'rent strokes was all us black folks had once Good Times went off the Air. Of course watching TV now you still see a lack of diversity. Per Friends, there were two black people in ALL of New York City.

I LOVE THE BOONDOCKS. If BET had been a normal channel, they probably could have had the show, but no, it didn't fit into the guidelines of as Mr. Noface puts it, "Niggertainment".

Imagine if your wife had to rely on BET for access to the black world now. Downright scary, isn't it.
Back in the day I would watch BET just to look at Donnie Simpson eyes. Shame!
I totally agree with you, Siditty. I haven't watched BET in about 10 to 15 years. I loved Video Soul with Donnie Simpson and Video Vibrations. Many times I would buy someone's album because I saw the video on Video Vibrations. I saw the writing on the wall when the rappers started taking over the channel. It is a shame!! I turned to watch BET for the BET awards to see the tribute to Michael Jackson. I should have known it wasn't going to be what I thought it was. I think the worst part of the awards was when Lil' Wayne had those poor girls on stage dancing to that trash he called a song. It was terrible!!
Lil Wayne is a big gold tooth tragedy. Rich tragedy, but tragedy nonetheless. Now his ex wife has a show with Tiny weird looking weird sounding ass. Gross.
The girl with her ass up in the air looks so stank. Are any of the men here turned on by this? You can admit it if you are.
Here's a question:
Can anyone recommend a good station to watch?
^ TV One, maybe.
I was just reading your blog a few minuets ago and the when I return I thought I had clicked on the wrong link when I saw the booty. LOL
BET - Just Trash tv now.
Hmm, I don't have TV One in my area, is it with a certain cable provider/regional thing? I'm assuming most things are BET - which is just a gross bastardization of black people in America. How is that pose even remotely attractive? You can practically smell the sleaze through the photo -- it's that tacky & raunchy!
Sorry I'm in a foul mood after seeing a new KGB commercial this morning with 3 black women talking about hair weaves in a hair salon - so much head rolling and finger twirling that I almost threw my remote at the TV!
do you have VH1soul in your area? They have good videos, other wise watch HBO or Showtime.
I loved the news with Ed Gordon. Then they got rid of him because they said that the ratings were low. Tavis Smiley was good too. They got rid of all the educational stuff and just kept getting more and more sleazy.
Literally laughed out loud at "Gold tooth tragedy" and "niggertainment". It's a damn shame.
Gosh, I almost forgot about teen summit.
"Teen Summit (Hey!), Kick the truth to the young black youth!)
Good times.
